RIIFF Third Thursdays: Documentary Shorts

The Jamestown Arts Center will screen six short documentary films from the 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) on Thursday November 20th at its Third Thursday short film series.

A Global Village (8 minutes) Directed by Ezra Millstein. Jeffrey DeChausse From USA & India. A family in India and from the USA work together to build a new home and a cross cultural understanding results.

Families are Forever (20 min.) Directed by Vivian Kleiman. Devote Mormon parents, living in a conservative community and campaigning for California’s Propostion 8 to prevent same sex marriage, come to realize their 13 year old son is gay. What happened next changed their lives forever. Their story will surprise you, give you hope and move you with the possibility of change. More info: www.familyacceptanceproject.org

La Grand Disilusion (10 min.) Directed by Pedro Gonzalez Kuhn. From Spain. In September 2012 the Spanish government increased the culture tax from 8 to 21% which caused the closing of many theaters, an effect felt equally by those cinemas forced to convert to digital technology.

Life After Manson (25 m.) Directed by Olivia Klaus. An intimate portrait of one of the world’s most infamous crimes and notorious killers. Forty-five years after the heinous murders, this exclusive interview with Patricia Krenwinkel reveals the unlikely relationship with Charles Manson that led her to cross every line of moral consciousness, resulting in the brutal acts she committed to win the approval of the man she loved. Crooked Candy (7 m.) Directed by Andrew Rodgers. While Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are hugely popular around the world, they are illegal in the United States due to a quirk in the FDA regulations. One fan of the eggs has smuggled them across the Canadian border for years despite being caught by the border patrol. More info: www.facebook.com/CrookedCandy
Showfolk (24 min.) Directed by Ned McNeilage. For seven Hollywood golden era veterans with a combined age of 662, all of whom reside at the Motyion Picture and Television Fund home, the show goes on. From a Vaudeville comedian still working at 100 to the stunning siren who dated Reagan when he was a Democrat, these ladies and gentleman are show folk through and through, with indomitable spirit and entertaining memories.

Film evening begins at 7:00pm. Suggested donation of $10 at the door.
