2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival

The Jamestown Arts Center will be a venue for this year’s Rhode Island International Film Festival and will be screening the following two programs:

Thursday August 7 at 7:00pm

The Starfish Throwers (83 minutes) Directed by Jesse Roesler. From USA / India. Most people pass hungry people on the street and do nothing. Meet three people who can’t and won’t. Continents apart, a top chef in India, a retired school teacher in Minnesota and a twelve year old girl from South Carolina risk their health, wealth and reputations to fight for a cause most say is lost.

Me Reencontrara Dentro De Ti (You Will Find Me Within You) (15 m.) Directed by Eitan Pitigliani. From Argentina / France /Italy. Pablo, a young Argentinian, travels from Buenos Aires to Rome to find his grandfather, of whom he only has a poem and a painting. During his journey in Rome he will discover his true origins.

Foundry (11 m.) Directed by Oliver Cheetham. From U.K./ France. On March 23, 2013 the sound of 36 tons of newly cast bells rang out from the bell towers of Notre-Dame in Paris. This is the story of the 4,000 year-old craft behind their construction, and the small family-run foundry in Normandy that made them.

Tikotin- A Life Devoted to Japanese Art (77 m.) Directed by Santje Kramer. From the Netherlands. A passion for Japanese art brings a famous German-Jewish art dealer all over the world. Two World Wars and a series of personal adversities later, the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art shines on Mount Carmel in Haifa. Twenty-five years after his death, his grandson tries to unravel the story of his remarkable grandfather Felix Tikotin (1893-1986.)

Bar (Bear) (8 m.) Directed by Pascal Floerks. From Germany. A grandfather’s past is always present for the filmmaker who recalls things he said or did but would never discuss. By revisiting his life and personality the filmmaker reveals the weight of his inheritance.
