The 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) Third Thursday Encore Series
The Jamestown Arts Center (JAC) will screen five international short films, from the 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF,) on Thursday June 18th at its Third Thursday short film series.
Ballkoni (The Balcony) (20 minutes) Directed by Lendita Zeqiraj. From Kosovo. An entire village reacts to a boy dangling from a balcony. More info: www.ballkoni.com
La Alfombra Roja (The Red Carpet) (12 m.) Directed by Manuel Fernandez. From Spain and India. 158 million people live in Indian slums under extreme conditions. Children play surrounded by rubbish in Garib Nagar slum where Rubina, a 12-year old girl hopes to become an actress and change the slum into a cleaner, more inhabitable place. Tschuss Papa (Goodbye Papa) (27 m.) Directed by Hendrik Maximilian Schmitt. From Germany. A touching drama about young Benedict who is coping with the death of his father. Bullied at school, Benedict becomes obsessed his father’s old set of medieval armor and becoming a knight. When his mother sells the suit in an effort to help her son move on, Benedict embarks on a quest to retrieve the armor and learns what it is to be a true knight. More info: www.augohr.de
The Way Home (17 m.) Directed by Chuong Vo. From Australia. Edward is a troubled teen who, since his mother’s death, has had a turbulent relationship with his father. When his younger brother becomes ill, Edward discovers the importance of family. More info: www.iamvo.net
