The Marcy & Zina Show

“Bright as two buttons, they sing the songs they write with the kind of wit and intelligence of the Dorothys Parker and Fields…”
— David Finkle, Village Voice

“Zina Goldrich and Marcy Heisler are the most gifted new writing team of their musical theatre generation. They create music and lyrics that are as fresh, bright, witty and accessible as have ever been written”
–Maury Yeston, Tony Award Winning Composer-Lyricist, Titanic, Nine

The Jamestown Arts Center (JAC) and Jamestown Community Theatre present The Marcy & Zina Show, featuring New York’s beloved songwriting team, Marcy Heisler (lyrics) and Zina Goldrich (music), accompanied by award-winning tenor  and one of New York’s most honored vocalists Scott Colter, on Friday, August 22 at 7:30pm at the Jamestown Arts Center. In a transformed JAC gallery space, audience members will delight in an evening of original song and story in a fun nightclub atmosphere.

For the past decade Goldrich and Heisler have been treating audiences to the very best in “wackily sophisticated” entertainment. From heartbreakingly sincere to laugh-out-loud funny, they do it all with style and class. Their song, “Taylor, the Latte Boy,” is a favorite of singers everywhere and their musical, “Ever After”, based on the Hollywood film of the same name, is heading to Broadway soon. While it is always fun to hear their songs interpreted by the great voices of musical theatre and beyond, it is, perhaps, an even greater thrill to get the opportunity to hear the composers perform their own work and learn the stories behind the songs.

The duo have been writing together for 18 years and their original songs have been sung by Kristin Chenoweth (star of the Original cast of Wicked on Broadway), Michael Feinstein, and a host of other Broadway and cabaret talent. Marcy and Zina have also tried their hand at writing full-length musicals, both of which have had runs Off-Broadway – as well as a show titled, Snow White, Rose Red (and Fred), which premiered earlier this year at The Kennedy Center.

SPECIAL CHILDREN’S MATINEE:
Professional songwriters Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich invite you to an afternoon of song, story and Q&A! Joined by award-winning tenor Scott Coulter, the trio will sing songs from their various shows (including their award-winning musicals, “Dear Edwina” – presented at The Jamestown Community Theatre last November – and “Junie B. Jones”) and give a little insight into how to write a song, offer sneak peeks of upcoming new material, answer questions about how to write a song, what makes a song memorable, how to make it in the songwriting industry, and invite audience members to try their hand at songwriting with fun interactive exercises. Great for all ages – children, teens, and adults – this afternoon is sure to unlock the songwriter in all of us!

Please note that no paper tickets will be issued. Give your name at the door.

Two showings:
Friday, August 22, 7:30pm
Sunday, August 24, 2pm “The Marcy & Zina Show” children’s matinee
